Ayurveda Day 2020

The whole world commemorates the goodness of the Ayurvedic  system of holistic medicine every year on a special day. The day is celebrated as Ayurveda Day. In the Asian countries, which have their roots in the origin of Ayurveda, this day is National Ayurveda Day. As a part of the global initiative to preserve and promote Ayurvedic health science, Ayurveda Day 2020 is celebrated. This year it falls on 13th November 2020. 

Ayurveda Day and Dhanvantari Jayanti 

Celebration of Ayurveda day strongly associates considering it an auspicious ceremony. Ayurveda Day is also called Dhanwantari Jayanti.  The roots of the Ayurveda correlate with the auspicious celebrations of India and a specific deity. The practice to celebrate Ayurveda Day was initiated by the Union Ministry of AYUSH in the year 2016. 

According to the ancient texts and scriptures, Lord Dhanvantari is the divine propagator of Ayurvedic science. Apart from being the creator of Ayurvedic science, he is also worshipped as the Hindu God of Medicine in India and across many South Asian countries. He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He is conferred with the virtues of granting a healthy body and mind, wealth and peace. 

The occasion of the Dhanvantari Jayanti, which falls every year during October or November the auspicious day is observed as Ayurveda Day that stands as a cornerstone of globalization of this oldest medical system. In the year 2020, Ayurveda Day falls on November 13, 2020. 

Objectives of the Ayurveda Day 

Observing Ayurveda day has more than reminiscing the origin and a day of celebration. The exclusive day is more of a day of education and a day of knowledge. It focuses more towards generating a strong sense about Ayurveda across the globe, which includes the following:  

  • Preserve and promote Ayurveda into mainstream 
  • Create and increase awareness about strong role Ayurveda plays
  • Alignment of Ayurvedic health science with UN-WHO Sustainable Development Goal 
  • Ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being of people across all ages 
  • Reduction of the morbidity and mortality rate by harnessing the power of Ayurveda 
  • Exploring and utilising the potential of Ayurveda towards health policy and health programs at national and global levels 
  • Promote the healing principles of Ayurveda in current generation 

Overall, the day focuses on the unique and undeniable role of Ayurveda in supporting a healthier world. 

Ayurveda Day 2020 Theme 

Every year, Ayurveda day and Ayurvedic outlook focuses on a specific theme. Year 2020, nevertheless, the year of global pandemic is the theme of Ayurveda Day. Ayurveda Day 2020 is all about the potential role of Ayurveda in managing the CoronaVirus – Covid19, across the globe. The Ayurveda Day aims to focus on strengths of Ayurveda and its unique treatment principles, to work towards reducing the burden of disease. Since Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine, building immunity and creating a healthy balance in the body helps in the present pandemic situation.  

The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India conducts various activities during the celebration of Ayurveda Day. A webinar on the theme of ‘Ayurveda for Covid-19 pandemic’ will be organised on ‘Ayurveda Day.’ About 1.5 lakh participants from all over the world are expected to attend the webinar. 

Ayurveda Day Pledge

India organises multi-cultural meet and invites many countries in a collective and collaborative commitment to promote Ayurveda. On this occasion, a pledge was created.
